IRONMAN
After my accident, I was told I would never be able to run again with the leg injuries I had, much less ride a bike or swim. When I got cleared by my nerve surgeon that running would not impact the healing of my nerves, I gave myself the aggressive goal of teaching myself how to swim, bike, and run for a full IRONMAN with the use of only one arm and in under a year of preparation. An IRONMAN triathalon is known as one of the hardest races in the world. The race consists of a 2.4 mile (3.9 km) swim, 112 mile (180.2 km) bike ride, with a 26.2 mile (42.2 km) run with an overall time limit of 16-17 hours. While doing all of the above with only the use of one arm is extremely difficult, an IRONMAN has always been something I’ve wanted to take part in. I am hoping to not only use this as a fundraising opportunity but also an event to raise awareness and show other people with injuries such as mine that anything is possible. I am happy to say I completed my goal of finishing the race in under a total year of training in 16 hours and 28 minutes.
